Kindergarten Parade of Balloons

Kindergarten students at Springer recently enjoyed the picture book Balloons Over Broadway and learned about the history of the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. To deepen their understanding, they watched a short video showing how the parade balloons are made, giving students a behind‑the‑scenes look at the craftsmanship and teamwork involved. Using characters from read‑alouds shared in class, the children designed and created their own balloon book characters. The whole school enjoyed a special parade where the kindergarteners showcased their balloons.

Booktacular

Springer Elementary recently celebrated reading with a festive Booktacular family night. This year’s annual event included a trunk-or-treat where students arrived in costume and collected candy from teachers dressed as beloved book characters. Meanwhile, Ms. Schuele directed 2nd and 3rd graders in a lively musical, featuring fall- and scarecrow-themed songs and chants inspired by Cynthia Rylant's book, Scarecrow. Ms. Saba’s art classes also read Scarecrow and created expressive scarecrow artwork using lines, shapes, and colors to convey emotion; those pieces were proudly displayed for families to enjoy. In the library, Mrs. Cutting hosted the fall book fair, giving visitors the chance to find great new reads for home. We thank all the families, staff, and students who joined us for a night of creativity and community — and for helping to celebrate the joy of reading.

Springer 5th Graders Learn about Fossil Fuel Formation

Mrs. Loposer’s 5th‑grade science class is exploring Earth’s processes by creating detailed dioramas of fossil fuel formation. Students modeled layers of sedimentary rock with ancient sea‑creature fossils trapped beneath, then explained how heat, pressure, and long spans of time transform those remains into oil and natural gas. Some dioramas also illustrated oil rigs and extraction methods, helping the class connect the geological formation of fuels to how humans recover and use them.

We appreciate Mrs. Lopo's commitment to creating interactive, student-centered lessons that inspire curiosity and learning.

Stallion Sidekicks

The Stallion Sidekicks are a fantastic new group at Springer this year! Made up of dedicated 4th and 5th graders, the Sidekicks play an important role in supporting our school community. They assist with school functions, help manage hallway traffic, and lend a hand with the arrival carline each morning to ensure a smooth and safe start to the day. Beyond these duties, the Sidekicks also contribute in other areas like the library, demonstrating leadership and school spirit. We’re proud of these young helpers who make Springer an even better place!
